In the first page you may have read the "basics" on Chis.  But that can describe all types of dogs.  It's not hard to be considered a Chi.  Below are some different type of Chihuahuas that are capable of "qualifying".

Sox

Sox is a 6 pound smooth coat chi. He was born on Christmas Day in 1997. He has a very beautiful shiny coat. As you can see he has all of the Chihuahua traits. He was purchased from a pet store under the sign "Pure bred Chihuahua".   But when you look at the dog shows why does there chi look different?

Brigette and Skimpy

Skimpy (upper right) is the larger beautiful full bred Chi. Brigette (lower right) is the cute baby chi. Skimpy is 5 years old and also fits the Chihuahua standard. He is a very fiesty dog and is very loved by his family. Brigette was 3 months old when she took this picture.  As you can see her ears are trying to stand up. Every week they would stand a little more.

Update:
Her ears are now standing and she is cute as ever!   That's not a very good picture of her but her color is just like Skimpy's and she is a fiesty little Chi.  She was 8 weeks at the time of the picture.   But if you have a chi and their ears aren't standing all the way up give it a little time.  It's perfectly normal while they are teething.  And in some long haired chis they may stand and then flop down because of the weight of the hair.

Show Quality vs. Pet Quality

Here (left) is a picture taken from a 1934 dog show.

These dogs are today never seen in shows. Most of the show quality dogs look like this..... (lower left)

The undisputed most popular Chihuahuas are the Taco Bell dogs. She/he meets the standards of the AKC but even they look different from show dogs.   The reason I say
Chihuahuas is because there are three taco bell dogs.  The one that is used in most of the commercials is a girl. But they are all used to shoot the famous taco bell commercials.

Maybe one day the breed will be broken into categories. But as for now the every dog on this page is considered Chihuahua. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to e-mail me or click on response page.  I welcome all comments good or bad.

*I'm sorry I do not have an example of a long haired chi.  If you have a long haired chi you would like added to the page please send it to Nitta255@aol.com.
